Roger Ailes’ Secret Nixon-Era Blueprint for Fox News

Republican media strategist Roger Ailes launched Fox News Channel in 1996, ostensibly as a "fair and balanced" counterpoint to what he regarded as the liberal establishment media. But according to a remarkable document buried deep within the Richard Nixon Presidential Library, the intellectual forerunner for Fox News was a nakedly partisan 1970 plot by Ailes and other Nixon aides to circumvent the "prejudices of network news" and deliver "pro-administration" stories to heartland television viewers.
The memo—called, simply enough, "A Plan For Putting the GOP on TV News"— is included in a 318-page cache of documents detailing Ailes' work for both the Nixon and George H.W. Bush administrations that we obtained from the Nixon and Bush presidential libraries. Through his firms REA Productions and Ailes Communications, Inc., Ailes served as paid consultant to both presidents in the 1970s and 1990s, offering detailed and shrewd advice ranging from what ties to wear to how to keep the pressure up on Saddam Hussein in the run-up to the first Gulf War.
Roger Ailes' Secret Nixon-Era Blueprint for Fox NewsThe documents—drawn mostly from the papers of Nixon chief of staff and felon H.R. Haldeman and Bush chief of staff John Sununu—reveal Ailes to be a tireless television producer and joyful propagandist. He was a forceful advocate for the power of television to shape the political narrative, and he reveled in the minutiae constructing political spectacles—stage-managing, for instance, the lighting of the White House Christmas tree with painstaking care. He frequently floated ideas for creating staged events and strategies for manipulating the mainstream media into favorable coverage, and used his contacts at the networks to sniff out the emergence of threatening narratives and offer advice on how to snuff them out—warning Bush, for example, to lay off the golf as war in the Middle East approached because journalists were starting to talk. There are also occasional references to dirty political tricks, as well as some positions that seem at odds with the Tea Party politics of present-day Fox News: Ailes supported government regulation of political campaign ads on television, including strict limits on spending. He also advised Nixon to address high school students, a move that caused his network to shriek about "indoctrination" when Obama did it more than 30 years later.
All 318 pages are available here. First, some highlights:  (I just took a peek at this but want to look at the whole thing when my mind is fresh, it's 318 pages so will do it later.)  ...cal

Excerpt:

John Henry Sununu (born July 2, 1939) is a former Governor of New Hampshire (1983–89) and former White House Chief of Staff under President George H. W. Bush. He is the father of John E. Sununu, a former senator from New Hampshire, and formerly a U.S. Representative. Sununu was the chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party from 2009 to 2011.

[edit] Early life

Sununu was born in Havana, Cuba, the son of Victoria (née Dada) and John Saleh Sununu, an international film distributor.[1] John is of Palestinian descent. His father's family came to the United States from the Middle East at the beginning of the twentieth century. Most of the last two generations of Sununus were also born in the United States. He follows the Roman Catholic path of Christianity.
He earned a BS in 1961, a Master's degree in 1963, and a Ph.D. in 1966 from MIT, all in mechanical engineering. Sununu is a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
From 1968 until 1973, he was Associate Dean of the College of Engineering at Tufts University and Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He served on the Advisory Board of the Technology and Policy Program at MIT from 1984 until 1989.

[edit] Governor

Sununu became New Hampshire's 85th Governor on January 6, 1983, and served three consecutive terms. He served as chairman of the Coalition of Northeastern Governors, the Republican Governors Association and, in 1987, the National Governors Association.

[edit] White House Chief of Staff

Sununu was the first White House Chief of Staff for George H. W. Bush, serving from 1989 to 1991. Time magazine dubbed him "Bush's Bad Cop" on the front cover on May 21, 1990.
At the recommendation of George W. Bush,[2] he resigned his White House post in 1991.[3]
Sununu is responsible for recommending David Souter to President George H. W. Bush for appointment to the Supreme Court of the United States, at the behest of New Hampshire senator Warren Rudman. The Wall Street Journal described the events leading up to the appointment of the "liberal jurist" in a 2000 editorial, saying Rudman in his "Yankee Republican liberalism" took "pride in recounting how he sold Mr. Souter to gullible White House chief of staff John Sununu as a confirmable conservative. Then they both sold the judge to President Bush, who wanted above all else to avoid a confirmation battle [after Robert Bork]."[4] Rudman wrote in his memoir that he had "suspected all along" that Souter would not "overturn activist liberal precedents."[5] Sununu later said that he had "a lot of disappointment" about Souter's positions on the Court and would have preferred him to be more similar to Justice Antonin Scalia.[5]

[edit] Televisio

President Bush speaks on the telephone regarding Operation Just Cause with Sununu and Brent Scowcroft, 1989.
n

Sununu co-hosted CNN's nightly Crossfire from March 1992 until February 1998.

[edit] Political positions

Sununu holds deeply conservative economic and social views[6] and as an engineer, he supports the expansion of nuclear energy. He is fiercely against the imposition of new taxes.[6]

[edit] Business

From 1963 until 1983, he served as President of JHS Engineering Company and Thermal Research Inc. In addition, he helped establish and served as chief engineer for Astro Dynamics Inc. from 1960 until 1965.
Sununu is President of JHS Associates, Ltd. and is a partner in Trinity International Partners, a private financial firm.

Sununu is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a member of the Board of Trustees for the George (H.W.) Bush Presidential Library Foundation.
He is also a member of Honorary Council of Advisors for U.S.-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC).[7]

Scowcroft served as National Security Advisor to both Presidents Gerald R. Ford and George Herbert Walker Bush. He was Vice Chairman of Kissinger Associates, Inc. (1982-1989), an international consulting firm. "In this capacity, he advised and assisted a wide range of U.S. and foreign corporate leaders on global joint venture opportunities, strategic planning and risk assessment." [6]

Lynda Chalker, Baroness Chalker of Wallasey PC (née Bates; born 29 April 1942) is a British Conservative politician who was Member of Parliament for Wallasey from 1974 to 1992. She served as Minister of State for Overseas Development at the Foreign Office, in the Conservative government from 1989 to 1997.

http://pinkindustry.wordpress.com/lynda-chalker/
Excerpts:
1) She was MP for Wallasey from 1974-92, and following the loss of her seat she was made a Life Peer. During her time in office Chalker was Under-Secretary of State DHSS (1979-82), a time largely remembered for the removal of benefits from the poor; then with the Dept. of Transport (1982-83) and as Minister of State for Africa & the Commonwealth at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1986-97 — an opportunity which provided very lucrative connections to the exploitation of Africa’s mineral wealth, discussed below.
She is one of only four ministers who served consecutively throughout the 18-year period of the Thatcher and Major governments in the UK. A difficult period to emerge from without criticism, and these have included the observation by John Pilger that:
“Shortly after the [1991] massacre the British Government increased its aid to the Suharto regime to £81 million, a rise of 250 per cent. The Minister for Overseas Aid, Baroness Chalker, claimed in Parliament that this was “helping the poor in Indonesia”. In fact, a large proportion of all British aid to Indonesia is made up of Aid for Trade Provisions (ATP); and much of this is the supply of weapons: British Aerospace, maker of Hawk aircraft, is among the British weapons companies helping Indonesia’s poor.”

2) The company say they provide “Knowledge and access to key decision makers in Washington and Iraq.” The London office is run by Basil Al-Rahim the former Managing Director of The Carlyle Group which, like MerchantBridge is the gatekeeper to foreign investing in Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Economic Offset Program.
“Carlyle had a relationship with the bin Ladens that began in the early 1990s, when they tried to put together a deal for the Italian Petroleum (IP) company. At the time, Basil Al Rahim, a young Carlyle associate, was travelling from Saudi Arabia to Amman to Bahrain, to United Arab Emirates, drumming up support for Carlyle’s forthcoming international funds. One of the clients that Al Rahim helped secure was the bin Laden family, which owned a $5 billion construction business by the name of Saudi Binladin Group.”

Police have raided the Daily Star offices, the Guardian can confirm. Clive Goodman, who was arrested today, currently works at the Daily Star Sunday.

Excerpt:
Clive Goodman (born 17 September 1957, Hammersmith, London) is a former royal editor and reporter for the News of the World. He was arrested in August 2006 and jailed in January 2007 for intercepting mobile phone messages involving members of the Royal Household.
Goodman initially worked as a journalist on Nigel Dempster's gossip column in the Daily Mail, before joining the News of the World as royal editor. He was among the tabloid journalists covering the breakdown of the marriage of the Diana, Princess of Wales to Prince Charles, and then held the News of the World record for number of consecutive front page splashes, with five.[1]
In March 2005 Goodman took over Mark Bolland's "Blackadder" column, that reported details of the lives of notable personalities. It was while writing for this column that two entries raised suspicion with Royal Household staff that Goodman had access to the Royal Family's voicemails.[1]
On 26 January 2007 Goodman was imprisoned for four months, having pleaded guilty to illegally intercepting phone messages from Clarence House.[2] Goodman was sacked by the News of the World in January 2007, but within a year he received £240,000 in settlements, from News International.[3] According to News International the payments were made because his dismissal was unfair as they had failed to "follow statutory procedures" in sacking Goodman.[4]
Goodman was arrested again, along with Andy Coulson, on 8 July 2011 after new revelations of the phone hacking were made public. It was announced that the News of the World would end its 168-year publication history on 10 July 2011.[5]

Moreover the week before Goodman had revealed how William was undergoing physiotherapy for a knee injury he had sustained during a kickabout with youngsters at a football ground, as a result of which he had had to pull out of a mountain rescue course. Again, fewer than a handful of trusted people had known that William was seeing a knee surgeon.
When they met at his office, William made it clear that he did not suspect Bradby, a sometime thriller writer, of any leaks. Instead as they reflected upon the uncannily accurate stories, Bradby remembered a conversation some years previously with the paparazzo who had taken a telling picture of Diana getting out of a car owned by the Daily Mail’s royal correspondent, Richard Kay. Since Kay had effectively been her mouthpiece for several years, the picture now confirmed these rumours.

Horton in the 1988 presidential campaign
The first person to mention the Massachusetts furlough program in the 1988 presidential campaign was Al Gore. During a debate at the Felt Forum sponsored by the New York Daily News, Gore took issue with the furlough program. However, he did not specifically mention the Horton incident or even his name, instead asking a general question about the Massachusetts furlough program.[6]
Republicans picked up the Horton issue after Dukakis clinched the nomination. In June 1988, Republican candidate George H.W. Bush seized on the Horton case, bringing it up repeatedly in campaign speeches.[6] Bush's campaign manager, Lee Atwater, predicted that "by the time this election is over, Willie Horton will be a household name."[6][7] Media consultant Roger Ailes remarked "the only question is whether we depict Willie Horton with a knife in his hand or without it."[8]

Excerpt:
What the politicians don't want to talk about, of course, is their decades-long dealings with the Murdoch empire. When Gordon Brown, the former prime minister, stood up in the House of Commons this month and vented his righteous anger about the invasion of his privacy by the Murdoch-owned Sun tabloid -- which published news of his infant son's cystic fibrosis four years ago-- on the face of it he cut a sympathetic figure. What Brown failed to mention, however, was that Brown and his wife subsequently welcomed then-News International CEO Rebekah Brooks to 10 Downing Street for a now-infamous "slumber party," and attended her wedding in 2009. Indeed, tabloid editors had been invited to the 2002 funeral of his 10-day-old daughter.

Excerpt:
In 1997, when she was a 29-year-old feature writer on the News of the World, Rebekah Wade made a trip to Westminster to intercept the Conservative MP Jerry Hayes. The paper was planning to run an exposé of the married MP's affair with his 18-year-old lover, she told him – or as the headline would put it that Sunday: "TORY MP 2-TIMED WIFE WITH UNDER-AGE GAY LOVER".
Hayes was devastated, but found himself so charmed by the young redhead and the sympathetic manner in which she had delivered the news that he later phoned the News of the World to thank them for the way they had handled the story.

Excerpt:
Scandal
In 1997, Hayes was the subject of a "sting", "outing" him as a homosexual, by the News of the World.[8] The newspaper ran with the headline "TORY MP 2-TIMED WIFE WITH UNDER-AGE GAY LOVER", reporting his affair with Young Conservative Paul Stone. According to Stone, Hayes picked him up at a meeting of the Stonewall gay rights pressure group during the 1991 Conservative conference in Blackpool, and that same evening, "Hayes then committed a lewd act which was in breach of the law at the time", relating to the fact that Stone was 18 at the time, and the legal age of homosexual sex in 1991 was 21.[2] He had previously supported Section 28 and other anti-gay legislation, but had, in the years leading up to 1997, become a supporter of LGBT equality. Personal life

Brooks became engaged to actor Ross Kemp (best known as Grant Mitchell in EastEnders) in 1996, and married him in June 2002 in Las Vegas.[47] On 3 November 2005, it was reported that Brooks had been arrested following an alleged assault on her husband. She was later released without charge and the police took no further action.[47] The Sun had been running a campaign against domestic violence at the time.[56][14] From this point, Brooks was referred to in Private Eye as "the slapper" (a pejorative British word for a woman of loose morals, and a pun on the act of slapping). The couple had spent the previous evening in the company of the former Cabinet Minister David Blunkett, who had resigned for the second time on that day.[57]
Private Eye and The Independent[58] reported that the couple had separated; this was not widely reported in the remainder of the British press. The 7 March 2008 issue of Private Eye refers to her "paramour", former racehorse trainer and author Charlie Brooks. The Guardian reported on 5 June 2009, that he would marry Brooks.[59] The Independent reported that Brooks and her fiancé had married in a lakeside ceremony in June 2009.[60] It was reported that a laptop and other items allegedly belonging to Charlie Brooks were found in the rubbish bins at the couple's London flat in Chelsea Harbour and, despite being claimed by Mr Brooks, were removed by police for examination.[61] It is unknown whether the police consider the laptop relevant to their 'phone hacking inquiry.
In July 2011, MP Chris Bryant claimed that Brooks had previously "sneered" at Bryant's homosexuality,[62] and that Kemp had responded "Shut up, you homophobic cow".[62]
Brooks is a friend of Sheryl Gascoigne, the ex-wife of footballer Paul Gascoigne.[20] She also attended the Prince of Wales' 50th birthday party.[13]
Brooks also enjoys horse riding and invited the prime minister to her Christmas party according to Henry Porter. [4]
Brooks lives in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire.[63]

Excerpt:
And so it came to pass: most of yesterday's papers decided that Hayes's "gay scandal" was the stuff of front page splashes. The Times reckoned, "Tory election campaign launch marred by claims of gay sex" and reported that senior figures in the Conservative Party were urging Hayes to step down at the next election; on the contrary, declared the Daily Mail, they are urging him to tough it out. The Telegraph, which had so recklessly invoked the Prime Minister's instincts on Friday, wanly echoed The Times - "Tories hit by claims over MP and boy" - but editorially raged, "The allegations ... have no bearing on the Government or its policies."
It must be admitted that there is something in this view. After all, Jerry Hayes is not in the Government; he's not even close. For the Telegraph he is "unimportant ... dragged from the darkest corners of the back benches." One has to ask why Jerry Hayes's gay fling/platonic friendship should be thought to have any bearing on anything besides the emotions of those two people and, arguably, of those close to them.
The News of the World did its best to find something serious about the case which would help to justify running it so big, pointing out in particular that Stone had been under age at the time. The Sun, the News of the World's News International stablemate, added yesterday that, though vice-chairman of the House of Commons's Aids committee, Hayes "never wore a condom" when making love to Stone. But everyone knows that these sort of details are just icing on the cake. Without them the story would be almost as juicy.

In the tiny village of Churchill deep in the Oxfordshire countryside yesterday, the power brokers of British politics and media gathered with some of the best-known faces from the worlds of racing, society and fashion for the wedding of the year.
A party attended by Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Rupert Murdoch might normally see paparazzi swarming, hoping to catch an illicit glimpse of the powerful couple. Not so yesterday. Rebekah Wade, 41, the editor of The Sun, Britain's biggest-selling newspaper, knows too much to allow her wedding to former racing trainer and international playboy Charlie Brooks to reach the public eye. The couple had exchanged rings at a quiet ceremony at St Bride's church in Fleet Street on Friday with "only their mothers" attending.

Excerpts:
1)Self promotion
Twentieth Century Fox, a subsidiary of News Corporation, has promoted its parent company's own Sky News channel through including it as a plot device when characters are viewing news broadcasts of breaking events.[citation needed] The newscaster or reporter in the scene will usually state that the audience is viewing Sky News, and reports from other channels are not shown. One notable example is the film Independence Day (1996)
Columbia Pictures uses or mention Sony products like VAIO computers or BRAVIA televisions in their movies.
2) Automobiles
The most common products to be promoted in this way are automobiles. Frequently, all the important vehicles in a film or television series will be supplied by one manufacturer. For example, the television series The X-Files (1993–2002) uses Fords, as do leading characters on the television series 24 (2001–2010).
The James Bond film series pioneered such placement.[23] The Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) features extensive use of AMC cars, even in scenes in Thailand, where AMC cars were not sold, and had the steering wheel on the wrong side of the vehicle for the country's roads. The two prior Bond films use vehicles from Ford or its subsidiaries.
Almost every car was made by General Motors in the films Bad Boys II (2003), The Matrix Reloaded (2003) and Transformers (2007).
In the film XXY (2007) all vehicles depicted are Toyotas, even though the film takes place in South America; the film's credits acknowledge the automaker as having funded portions of the film's production.

Huntsman worked as a White House staff assistant for Ronald Reagan, and he was appointed by George H.W. Bush as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce and later as United States Ambassador to Singapore from 1992–1993. Huntsman served as Deputy United States Trade Representative under George W. Bush, launching global trade negotiations in Doha, Qatar in 2001 and guiding the accession of China and Taiwan into the World Trade Organization.
Huntsman has also served as CEO of his family's Huntsman Corporation and was elected Governor of Utah in April, 2004 and won re-election in 2008 with nearly 78% of the vote. During his tenure, Huntsman cut taxes by more than $400 million—the largest tax cut in the state's history—while still maintaining a budget surplus and Utah was named the "Best Managed State in America" by Pew Research Center. While governor, he also served as chairman of the Western Governors Association and as a member of the Executive Committee of the National Governors Association. On August 11, 2009, he resigned as governor to accept an appointment as the United States Ambassador to the People's Republic of China.

While the Huntsman Container Corporation's first packaging plant was being built in 1971, Huntsman joined the Nixon Administration as Associate Administrator of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and later served as Special Assistant and Staff Secretary to President Nixon.

[edit] Presidential elections

He served as Chairman for Utah in Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign in 1984 and Bush 41's campaigns in 1988 and 1992.[3]
In the United States presidential election, 2008, he endorsed former Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney. According to a source close to the family, Huntsman Sr. and his son got together and discussed endorsement strategies for the Republican primary. They determined that Huntsman Jr. would support U.S. Senator John McCain—who was more likely to give him a prominent cabinet post if he won. Huntsman Sr. would endorse Utah and mormon favorite Mitt Romney.[4]

In the above statement, Rockefeller was also praising the Mormon Church owned media, like the Deseret News and KSL.com, television and radio stations for helping to make this happen. After all, they were successful in suppressing Jon Huntsman's leadership in the Illuminati shadow government, known as the Council on Foreign Relations. They have also suppressed the Eccles Illuminati involvement with Planned Parenthood, Cannon's $85 million theft, and the darker side of the Marriot financial empire.

Jon Huntsman's father Jon Senior, was the founder of Huntsman Chemicals and was ranked as the 486th richest person in the world in 2006 by Forbes magazine. He has  reported net worth of over 1 billion dollars. He is also married to the daughter of Mormon Apostle, David B Haight.

"David B. Haight served as the mayor of Palo Alto, Calif., from 1953-1959. He resigned the position to serve as president of an LDS mission in Scotland and became an apostle in the church in 1976." (source)

He was married to Ruby M. Olson (1910–2004).[3] He was the father-in-law of businessman and philanthropist Jon Huntsman, Sr., (who married his daughter Karen) and grandfather of the former governor of Utah and U.S. Ambassador to China, Jon Huntsman, Jr.
Haight served as mayor of Palo Alto, California and also was the owner of the Palo Alto Hardware store. Upon being called as president of the church’s mission in Scotland, he resigned as mayor of Palo Alto over the objections of the city council. In addition to his service as mission president, he was president of the Palo Alto Stake, and a regional representative of the Twelve Apostles before his call as a general authority—specifically, an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles—in April 1970. He also served as a special assistant to the president of Brigham Young University.
The vacancy left by the death of Apostle Hugh B. Brown in December 1975 was filled by Haight's calling; he was ordained an apostle on January 8, 1976.
Haight died in the morning of July 31, 2004 of causes incident to age, having attended the funeral of his colleague Apostle Neal A. Maxwell just four days earlier. Dieter F. Uchtdorf and David A. Bednar were called to the quorum to fill the vacancies created by Maxwell's and Haight's deaths. Haight's funeral service was held in the Salt Lake Tabernacle and he was interred at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Holladay, Utah.
